Reducing Risk by Design

A Roundtable on Unintended Consequences in Humanitarian Work

🗓️ Date & time: 3 June 2025, 17:30–19:00

📍 Location: Commit Global Office – Lange Voorhout 86, The Hague

Join us for Reducing Risk by Design, an interactive roundtable event that explores the real-life and digital threats emerging in a world shaped by rapid decisions, good intentions—and often, unintended consequences.

Whether you work in public service, business, technology, or civil society, your actions impact people’s lives in ways that aren’t always predictable. This session invites you to step back, reflect, and engage with the risks we may unknowingly create—especially for those who are already vulnerable in times of crisis.

💬 What to Expect

Through a mix of guided discussion and hands-on exercises, participants will navigate realistic scenarios where every choice can open a path—or a pitfall.

You’ll be challenged to respond to complex situations such as:

  • 🧩 Information leaks in emergency zones

  • 🚧 Tech rollouts that exclude or endanger

  • ⚖️ Public policies that unintentionally create new vulnerabilities

Together, we’ll map these invisible risks and explore how small, accessible shifts in thinking and design can lead to safer, more responsible outcomes.

🤝 Why Attend

This roundtable is not about blame—it’s about awareness, shared learning, and action. It’s a space for cross-sector dialogue, where you can hear diverse perspectives, share your own, and leave with tangible ideas to strengthen the safety and impact of your work.

Whether you're a policymaker, technologist, NGO worker, business leader, or engaged citizen, Risk by Design will challenge you to see risk differently—and empower you to help build systems that:

  • 🔒 Protect rather than expose

  • 🤝 Include rather than exclude

🎯 Come with your questions.

Leave with new tools.
Let’s rethink how we shape safety in a fragile world.
